While the meditative movement of yoga practice might be just what the doctor ordered to restore strength and balance to tired minds and bodies, the financial cost can be a hard pill to swallow, especially when a single drop-in class commands more than $30 in some Nashville studios.

So, Liz Veyhl founded Small World Yoga in 2014, to make the healing and connection of yoga accessible and affordable to a broader community.

At the intersection of Edgehill Avenue and 12th Avenue South, Liz hosts what she calls “a full boutique studio experience at a fraction of the cost.”  Specifically, the cost is $10 per drop-in session. Meanwhile, class-pack volume pricing can reduce fees to as low as $6 a class, and a $999 annual membership includes unlimited attendance.

But that pricing structure only applies to classes held at the Edgehill studio, which offers both 95-degree-heated power flow and unheated deep rest, along with a yogi beats class of vinyasa flows with rhythm-based exercises. Those $10 studio classes help support a calendar of lower-cost and free yoga all around town, in churches, libraries, bars and other community venues.

In 2024, Small World Yoga provided 3,600 outreach classes through 80 community partner locations. For example, at Centennial Park, Small World hosts $5 yoga on the lawn near the volleyball courts on Tuesday evenings through October.  And Tailgate Brewery on Charlotte offers $5 yogaevery other Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a partnership with Nashville Public Library supports a calendar of free classes at various library branches, with sessions held in quiet rooms surrounded by books.

As a nonprofit, Small World funds operations through a combination of earned revenue, donations and fundraising events. On Saturday, Oct. 25, Small World will host a fundraiser featuring yoga trainer and author Baron Baptiste, along with Wounded Warrior Project advocate Dan Nevins and yoga teacher Kristin Gore. The all-day yoga immersion--with a yoga flow, meditation, journaling, inquiry and sound bath--will be held at Belmont United Methodist Church in Hillsboro Village. The daylong retreat costs $200 per attendee, with discount for Small World Yoga members.
