London-based luxury brand Burberry has reopened its newly redesigned location at The Mall at Green Hills.
Alongside the fashion house’s iconic trench coats and Burberry Check scarves, the store offers an extensive women’s collection featuring shoes, boots and elegant runway apparel. The store also introduces the Polo Gallery, a dedicated collection of men’s piqué polo shirts, while the Scarf Bar puts one of the brand’s most recognizable accessories center stage.
Inspired by London architecture, the redesigned store incorporates natural stone, cast-iron hanging rails and rugs embossed with Burberry’s signature check. The lighter, brighter interior marks a departure from the aesthetic of the brand’s former space and gives greater prominence to Burberry’s accessories and ready-to-wear collections.
Outdoor enthusiast Thomas Burberry founded the company in 1856 at age 21, initially creating clothing designed to protect wearers from Britain’s often challenging weather. Twenty-three years later, he invented gabardine, a weather-resistant, tear-resistant and breathable fabric that helped establish the company’s reputation for outerwear.
British military officers wore coats made with the fabric, as did explorers including Maj. F.G. Jackson, Capt. Robert Falcon Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton. In the 1920s, the company introduced its now-famous Burberry Check as a coat lining. The pattern eventually moved beyond the interior of its outerwear to become one of the fashion house’s defining design signatures.
Burberry’s redesigned store arrives amid continued growth in Nashville’s luxury retail market. Over the past four years, brands including Hermès, Brunello Cucinelli, Christian Louboutin, Zimmermann, STAUD, Saint Laurent, Gucci and Chanel Beauty have opened or expanded their presence in the Nashville market, significantly changing the city’s high-end retail landscape.
