If you’ve been shopping in Green Hills recently and witnessed some unusual customer behavior, it might be etc. restaurant owner Deb Paquette's mischief at work. For example, did you catch sight of anyone snooping behind the books on the shelves at Parnassus? Or rifling through the pockets of clothes at Levy’s? Shuffling through table settings at Corzine & Co.? Or shaking empty all the shoes at The Perfect Pair?

If you spotted these and other curious manners in Bandywood and beyond, you just might have stumbled onto a zany scavenger hunt in celebration of etc. restaurant’s 10th anniversary. To mark the milestone birthday of her Bedford Avenue dining room and bar, founding chef-owner Deb surreptitiously stashed 10 gift cards — each worth $100 — with nearby Green Hills merchants. Leave it to this doyenne of creative independent dining in Nashville to reimagine her own birthday card as a community event.

Someone’s already claimed prizes at The Plaid Rabbit, Parnassus Books, The Perfect Pair, Corzine & Co. and K. McCarthy. But as of Wednesday afternoon, there were still five cards out there for the finding. Who will unearth the $100 gift cards at Levy’s, Fleet Feet, White’s Mercantile, Elan or Fox’s Donut Den?

Whether or not you’re lucky enough to find the hidden loot, you can celebrate with a special tasting menu of etc.’s greatest hits, including Vietnamese Nuóc Châm Short Rib, Roasted Beet Salad, Big Night Pie and Housemade Birthday Cake Ice Cream. Available through August, the tasting menu costs $65 per person, with $10 celebration cocktails — including Grenache Blend, Salt of the Earth and Deb-spresso Martini — available for purchase with the menu.
