On the Circuit: Crafting Change

In July, The Family Center officially became Raising Resilience Tennessee (RRTN), a new name reflecting its steadfast mission of strengthening families and nurturing resilient communities. The milestone also marked the nonprofit’s 40th anniversary, celebrating four decades of transforming the lives of children and parents across the state.
Still, some traditions remained beautifully familiar, most notably Raising Resilience Tennessee’s much-loved annual benefit, Crafting Change. More than 200 guests gathered at the elegant Conrad Hotel for the signature “sip and shop” event, where they toasted the occasion with champagne and filled large tote bags with treasures from over 20 local artisans. The lively pre-luncheon shopping scene buzzed with conversation, laughter, and purpose, a testament to Nashville’s generous spirit.
As guests took their seats in the hotel’s ballroom, CEO Susan Galeas welcomed everyone with heartfelt gratitude before Board Chair Michael Adamson took the stage. He applauded sponsors, supporters, and Raising Resilience Tennessee’s “small but mighty” staff, whose dedication fuels the organization’s transformative work. Adamson then introduced this year’s Activating Change Award, honoring the Circle of 40, supporters who each pledged between $1,000 and $5000 in recognition of RRTN’s 40 years of service. When Adamson noted they were four members shy of their goal, hands immediately shot up across the room. Within moments, the Circle was complete, earning a rousing ovation as the group gathered onstage.
The program’s most touching moment came with the arrival of Megan McCarthy, recipient of the Raising Resilience Award. A devoted mother of two children with special needs, Megan arrived slightly late, dependent on a ride, a reminder, as Galeas noted, “of exactly what Raising Resilience Tennessee is all about. It’s hard to be a working mom, and it takes a village.” Through RRTN’s Positive Parenting Plus program, Megan found the support, tools, and community she needed to help her children thrive.
Raising Resilience Tennessee continues to break intergenerational cycles of childhood trauma through evidence-based programs that strengthen families and build healthier futures. As the afternoon drew to a close, guests left inspired, reminded that together, we are truly crafting change for Tennessee’s children and families.
