The American Brain Foundation Gala returned to Nashville on a beautiful September evening, and it did not disappoint. As guests arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel Nashville, they entered the grand ballroom lobby to find stunning floor-to-ceiling views of the Cumberland River, passed wines and canapés — and something unexpected: the opportunity to experience ABF’s mission in action.
The foundation had stationed 14 researchers from across the country throughout the lobby, inviting guests to meet the brilliant scientists whose research may lead to the next breakthrough in treating brain diseases and disorders. The room was abuzz with conversation, new connections and discovery, perfectly capturing the evening’s theme of “Brilliance and Breakthroughs.” Among the notable attendees was actress and advocate Selma Blair and her service dog, Scout — the latter quickly becoming one of the evening’s most talked-about guests.
Inside the ballroom, guests enjoyed a three-course dinner expertly prepared by the Four Seasons’ culinary team. Co-chairs Adam and Sean Sansiveri welcomed the crowd and underscored why Nashville was the perfect home for this national foundation’s gala: As the healthcare capital of the world, Nashville is an industry hub and an engine of discovery.
Emcee Christopher Hanke kept the evening moving with plenty of laughter, while executive director Michelle Heritage reinforced the foundation’s guiding philosophy: “Cure One, Cure Many.” Guests applauded the 2026 award recipients: Apple TV’s Shrinking, recognized for its powerful portrayal of Parkinson’s disease, accepted by cast members via video; ALS advocate and legendary running back Chris Johnson, presented by Selma Blair and accepted by his family; and the Wounded Warrior Project, a veterans service organization, accepted by John Eaton.
Singer, songwriter, actor and author Leslie Odom Jr. captivated the room with a stirring vocal and guitar performance before a spirited live auction brought the evening to a close. Guests then gathered in the lobby for a final Champagne toast, celebrating a memorable evening — and its fundraising success.
