Nfocus’ Third Fresh Faces of Philanthropy Celebrates Nashville’s Changemakers

On a warm summer evening, Nfocus friends gathered at Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery to raise a glass to Nashville’s esteemed philanthropists — namely, those 45 years and younger. 

Nfocus’ Fresh Faces of Philanthropy program highlights 10 outstanding individuals and their dedication, work ethic and civic-minded spirit. For the third year, honorees, nonprofit members and Nfocus readers united at a special soirée to celebrate each philanthropist and their accomplishments. 

The venue ignited with electric energy as each honoree entered and visited with friends old and new. Copies of Nfocus’ June issue dotted the space, being leafed through by many. Some Fresh Faces, like Alvaro Manrique Barrenechea, even signed copies for their guests. 

Lush floral arrangements by Rose Hill Flowers drenched the evening in elegance, and many revelers posed for photos in front of a grand Fresh Faces backdrop. Adding to the glamour, Viva La Strings performed classical arrangements of beloved pop songs. 

Nfocus editor-in-chief Janet Kurtz gathered this year’s Fresh Faces class — along with past honorees — for an intimate Champagne toast, raising a glass to their accomplishments and the city’s new generation of philanthropists and changemakers. 

Then came time for even more recognition. Janet took the stage, highlighting the group’s crucial work in supporting nonprofits amid federal funding cuts — and doing so with hope, tenacity and persistence. She then acknowledged each honoree and presented them with a plaque displaying their feature in the magazine. The room filled with continuous applause, signaling the influence each Fresh Face has had on their community. 

Joel Abramson, chief advancement officer for the Adventure Science Center, received the Impact Award (much to his surprise) for bringing the most guests to the event. In return, the Adventure Science Center received a donation to support its excellence in fostering children’s curiosity.
