Music City’s longest running community orchestra is about to celebrate another milestone. For close to 20 years the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra has been supporting local musicians while offering free, symphonic music to the community. The work of the organization is to bring symphonic music to audiences that might not otherwise have access. Additionally, local musicians are given the opportunity to perform a varying degree of genres and styles as well as their own original compositions. Founded by Kelly Corcoran, a former conductor for the Nashville Symphony for nine seasons, both as Associate Conductor and Director of the Symphony Chorus, the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra was built to bring together musicians across a spectrum of experience who all enjoy playing music together.
As part of the 20th anniversary celebration, a new documentary featuring the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra is set to be released September 5, 2023. Room to Play is a new documentary that focuses on the music to human connection. Director Joe Gomez follows the orchestra as it approaches its 20th anniversary and spotlights the challenges and triumphs of the community orchestra.
