The Nashville Film Festival has announced its lineup of feature-length and short films made about or by Tennesseans. The list is in addition to previous announcements that The Return of Tanya Tucker will be the opening night presentation and that The Year Between, Acidman, Butterfly in the Sky and The Civil Dead will be screened.

“While we pride ourselves on bringing an exciting slate of films from around the world to Nashville every year, our Tennessee programs are a mainstay in our annual festival,” said Programming Director Lauren Ponto. “The level of local talent, both in front and behind the camera, deserves as wide an audience as possible, and it’s our privilege to be a platform for these deserving films.”

The feature films most recently chosen include Big Old Goofy World: The Story Of Oh Boy Records, which tells the story of the label, founded by John Prine, Al Bunetta and Dan Einstein, that to helped reinvent the music industry by creating a path for today’s artists to stay independent, and Old Friends: A Dogumentary about the Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. A total of 23 Tennessee short films have also been selected.

The 53rd Nashville Film Festival kicks off Sept. 29 and runs through Oct. 5 with programming taking place at the Belcourt Theatre, TPAC’s Andrew Johnson Theater and the Franklin Theatre, and some of the 125 films will be available to screen virtually.
