Julia Baker has spent her life building more than successful businesses. She has built opportunities for others.
Whether leading one of Nashville’s premier land planning and design firms or directing philanthropic investments that strengthen the lives of women and girls, Julia believes leadership is measured by the positive impact it leaves behind. That philosophy makes her an exceptional advocate for The Women’s Fund.
As principal partner of BFT Land Design, Julia oversees strategic planning, financial stewardship and long-term growth. Those same leadership skills have become invaluable in her volunteer service.
After attending The Women’s Fund’s annual Power of the Purse luncheon for several years, Julia accepted an invitation to join the organization’s board of directors. Today, she serves as development chair on the executive committee, is a member of the granting committee and recently co-chaired the organization’s most successful Power of the Purse fundraiser to date.
The Women’s Fund is dedicated to creating lasting change for women and girls across Middle Tennessee through strategic grantmaking and community partnerships. Its work supports organizations focused on women’s health, economic sustainability, safety and opportunities for girls to thrive.
For Julia, that mission is deeply personal. As the mother of two daughters, a mother-in-law to two remarkable women and “Gabby” to nine granddaughters, she’s passionate about helping create brighter futures for the next generation.
Serving on the granting committee has become one of the most rewarding parts of her volunteer work. Reviewing applications from nonprofits across Middle Tennessee has introduced her to organizations quietly transforming lives every day, while reminding her that thoughtful philanthropy creates lasting change.
Raised to believe that hard work, integrity and helping others are responsibilities, Julia earned her college degree while raising four children before building a successful career. Those values continue to guide her leadership today.
“Julia has been an incredible leader for The Women’s Fund,” says senior manager Janyl Igadna. “She brings care, thoughtfulness and passion to everything she does, while inspiring others to strengthen our mission and expand our impact.”
Through her generosity, vision and commitment to service, Julia is giving more women and girls the opportunity to build healthy, secure and successful lives.
