Ro + Co: The Art of Living

Ro + Co doesn’t only offer beautiful home goods and intentional design services. The shop is a mother-daughter labor of love spanning over six years. 

Interior designer and shop owner Mitzi Maynard kickstarted her business in 2006 and added interior design procurement services in 2009. Growing up as an “interior designer’s kid,”  furniture always accompanied Mitzi’s daughter Khaki in the backseat during car rides. In high school, Khaki began assisting Mitzi with projects and installs. “She loved to play office, so she loves the business side of it,” says Mitzi. 

Khaki’s evolution in the design space led her to take the reins of the business. She now manages the store and provides a detail-oriented approach, while Mitzi continues to handle design. “We are a great complement for each other in our [talents],” says Mitzi.

The store’s tagline, “The art of living,” is Mitzi and Khaki’s motto. The duo searches for pieces with texture and character that effectively mix the old and the new. “We both love the use of art and collected pieces,” says Mitzi. “We both love comfortable, cozy upholstery.” 

While Mitzi and Khaki share similar tastes, they offer distinct visual approaches that make the store’s inventory feel curated and authentic. “I’m much more black and white, textured and probably bolder than she is, and she’s more neutral,” says Mitzi. “So, our biggest variation is in color.” 

All in all, the mother-daughter duo doesn’t want the store to look like a catalog. Rather, they search for eye-catching pieces with stories behind them. “My design projects are much more a blend of different styles,” says Mitzi, “where the shop has a collected, travelled aesthetic. That’s something Khaki really brings to the shop.”

In addition to selling artful goods, Ro + Co hosts a pop-up one Saturday a month, highlighting the local creative community. Previously, Ro + Co has provided space for photographers, pilates classes, flower arranging and local craftspeople. Bringing new experiences to the shop each month keeps the business fresh and plugged into the community.
