For the love of dog

And kitty cats, too!

There’s truly nothing in the world, in our humble opinion, that could draw women together more than fashion and animals. Case in point: The Nashville Humane Association’s Cause for Paws. It’s a howling good time with lunch, one of the greatest silent auction spreads in the history of time and a New York-style runway fashion show spearheaded by our own fashion maven and dog lover Gigi Grimstad of Jamie. What more does a girl need?

Once again, this event at Belle Meade Country Club pulled in a mind-boggling number of ladies—so many in fact, we were once again concerned about the livelihood of local eateries that no doubt missed their regular clientele. But this is a can’t-miss event. It actually won the Pedigree Award for Best Shelter Organization Fundraising Program for 2007 (that’s big-time, national recognition) and has become a model for pet organizations everywhere.

Each year, the Julia Colton Award is presented to an individual who, like Julia, worked their tail off for the welfare of animals. We think the committee chose well. The best friend of dog, cat, snake, hamster, rabbit and all the other critters on Noah’s Ark—the unstoppable Robin Patton took home the honor this year. Put your paws together for this one folks! Robin works tirelessly for animal welfare on a local and national level, making the calls, attending the meetings, coming up with ideas to help her furry friends, raising funds and more. You name it, she does it. Tenaciously.

That’s one of the great things about Nashville Humane Association and events like this. The volunteers are fiercely committed to the cause and give tirelessly. From Cause for Paws co-chairs Libby Sieviking and LeAnne Bottorff to Leslie Dabrowiak (who has had a hand in countless NHA events and serves on the board) and Gigi Grimstad (who donates her staff, models, workers and the time it takes to pull off a full-fledged fashion show), our city and its loving critters benefit from their generosity. We woof you all! EN
