A star, a star
Daystar brings comfort and light to those in need

Daystar Ministries Evening in December, held at Chaffin’s Barn, was the perfect event for jump-starting the holiday season. The cozy venue was dressed head-to-toe in all things Christmas. The crowd of 300 was greeted by carolers and hot cider as they arrived on this chilly, rainy evening. Inside, the revelers found their seats at white-clothed tables with red polka-dotted napkins, cedar greenery and a red stocking for each Santa to contribute to this well-deserved counseling ministry.
If you have not been to Chaffin’s Barn, it is the perfect setting for “in-the-round” entertainment. The stage is in the center of the room surrounded by tiered levels of dining tables. The cedar swags with twinkling white lights and red Christmas bows festively wrapped the room like a giant Christmas present.
Daystar children served as waiters, delivering the delicious dinner of comfort food. The entertainment for the evening rivaled that of the Bluebird Café with Buddy Greene, Jeff Taylor, Dave and Jonathan Dillard, 11-year-old Tristan McIntosh, Neil Thrasher, Wendell Mobley, Melinda Doolittle, Jars of Clay and Ashley Cleveland on the bill. Tricia Walker, who penned the “Evening in December” song 22 years ago for the first Daystar benefit, was also in attendance.
Jane Smith and Jim Knestrick spoke about next year’s capital campaign and the expansion of Daystar under the continued leadership of Melissa Trevathan.
The evening’s program featured these words: “Madeleine L’Engle describes Christmas as one of the ‘Glorious Impossibles’ in her book by the same name. It brings both joy and hope and has become an inspiration and reason as to why Daystar Ministries exists. For the 15 year-old boy whose life feels defined by loss. For the eight-year-old girl who doesn’t understand why her thoughts are consumed by worry. For the family who has unexpectedly found themselves in the midst of a difficult divorce. For these children, these families and over 900 like them who are currently benefiting from Daystar’s services, this night brings the glorious impossible to them.”
Indeed, it does.
