More than grand
NCT’s Grand Day offers happiness
Published On: December 27, 2011
Most folks know the expression, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” With that in mind, we were hesitant to write anything about this year’s Grand Day, the annual fundraiser for the Nashville Children’s Theatre, seeing that these few words will take the place of photos that speak volumes.
Just look at the pure, innocent joy at this heartwarming event, the proceeds of which support NCT’s belief that “a cultural heritage is the right of all children,” as well as their commitment “to serve the youth of Middle Tennessee regardless of physical, developmental or financial challenges.” In this day and age, it seems particularly important to get children off their iPhones and iPads and put them in an inspirational environment that will let them use their creativity in a refreshing way.
A packed house watched and engaged with the performance, Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!, and then moved outside for a Grand Carnival featuring a petting zoo, dance party, bounce house, games, food and fun.
Grand Day Honorees Harriet Harms and Karla Cooper Kelso, both of whom are long-time supporters of NCT and numerous other performing arts organizations, were celebrated for providing sign-interpretation for so many of NCT’s performances. Harriet and Karla retired at the end of last season, and NCT honored them at the party, which also celebrated the organization’s 80th Anniversary.
The food selection offered something for all ages, courtesy of JONbalaya Catering, Cici’s Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Las Paletas, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Bongo Java and Mrs. Grissom’s Salads.
Enough of our words! Just look at these pictures, smile and be happy that NCT is caring for our city’s children.
