Juanita Lane: Dulce Desserts
Sweet!

“Dahhhling, are you the one who made the pistachio macaroons? They were to die for!” And so began the conversation between Isaac Mizrahi and Juanita Lane. Not a bad way to start your day if you’re in the dessert-making business. Isaac has great taste, but Juanita just may have even a better sense of what’s delicious, which she made clear at the Symphony Spring Fashion that featured Isaac.
After four-and-a-half years in the bakery business, Juanita and her haven of sinful delights, Dulce Desserts, have become an integral part of the Nashville community as she dishes out delectable sweet treats and good will. In fact, when we called her for an interview, she was delivering a cake for a photo shoot and then taking it to Bellevue for flood victims and volunteers to enjoy.
But that’s just like Juanita. After discovering a love of baking as a child, she knew what life had in store for her. While she was on the road with corporate job for while, she now enjoys being settled here in Nashville—although she doesn’t have much time off.
But the hard work is well worth it, says Juanita, listing “providing product that didn’t exist in the marketplace and being part of people’s lives” as some of the job’s rewards. “We bring deliciousness to life events from baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. You become really close to many of your customers because you become part of their life celebration.
Her dream job? “My daughter asked me to make her wedding cake this morning—I was just overwhelmed,” says Juanita. “She’s eleven and a half so I have some time for making decisions.”
