Music City?

So after discovering that Nashville would in fact be getting an Urban Outfitters, much to my delight, I realized in the same instance that we would be losing one of the better live music venues, much to my horror. Nashville has long been known for music, but is it more for the recording aspect and not the live entertainment portion? After all, yesterday on the radio I heard someone mention that Manchester, TN does more to earn the title of Music City in one day than Nashville does all year. Sure, we have music festivals, but they can't attract fans from all over the country the way Bonnaroo does. We're growing, and growing pains come along with that. Places like City Hall that aren't making large profits are being moved out of the way to make room for venues that will be a cash cow. Again, this is something I understand. Hopefully Nashville will keep getting creative with live entertainment promotion, and more money will start rolling in for what we're known for.
Movie Madness

Saturday night a large group of us went to see the new Batman movie: The Dark Knight. Mayhem ensued inside the theater, and I'm not just talking about what was portrayed on the big screen. The theater was so jam-packed with excited fans that we were all forced to the very front isle, causing migraine worthy neck pains the next day for anyone on that row. Besides that small set back though, the movie is absolutely worthy of the record breaking sales it took in. I'm recommending it to anyone - especially after opening weekend is over and you'll most likely be able to get a better seat than me. Don't forget the Goobers and Popcorn!
Nashville Getting a Little More Urban?

I can't tell you how many times I've heard the rumor that we will soon be getting an Urban Outfitters. I have to admit, I would love to see that come to fruition, but I haven't seen any news bulletins for myself, nor have I spotted the telling piece of paper in a shop window announcing the future arrival. Much like Anthropologie, I love the atypical items Urban Outfitters has. Whether it's obscure books I would never buy, or comical t shirts that I would actually purchase, the store has a great sense of humor and is something that would be a hit in Nashville. Of course, when you see every other girl walking around in the same dress that's in the storefront, you realize the downside of having just a few great stores in the area. Even so, it's an exciting thing to hear rumors of!
Closing Down...or Just Revamping?

For a few weeks now I've heard that the Green Hills Grille will be closing very shortly. In fact, I believe this was their last week. Even so, I received an invitation to be on a tasting panel tonight for the revamping of their menu. Are they simply updating their look to attract more diners? I'll be honest and admit that this restaurant was not one of the normal places that most of the people I know went. I wasn't heartbroken to see it go, but was a little nervous about what might go in it's place. For the Green Hills area to be so popular, there wasn't an abundance of dining/bar options until Hill Center moved in. Now there are a few great places that I like to frequent, but I'm still excited to see what's around the corner for that strip near the movie theater where closings are becoming the norm.

Well, I don't know if you could technically say that they are healthy, or even beneficial for your health, but the cupcakes at Whole Foods are chock-full off all natural ingredients. There's no lard or margarine, and the yellow cake version is even made of wheat flour! Put that all together and you get a surprisingly tasty concoction only Whole Foods could make. Honestly, if I tried to make a wheat flour cupcake it would most likely taste like cornbread. But I've got to hand it to them; whatever organic secret ingredient they have in their kitchens should be sold in a gold container!

What is it with the Tennessean and the Britishism “spot-on?” The social writer uses the term almost weekly (not today or last week, which makes me think someone has pointed out to her its frequency). But in this morning’s paper, there is was again, in a story by staff writer Maureen Patzer about the Icon: “Knabe, an artist management professional, is spot-on the demographic Icon’s developer’s identified when they…”
National Barbeque Weekend

I wasn't able to do the typical 4th of July festivities that everyone I know was occupied with this entire weekend. I think what I missed the most was grilling out and gorging myself with hamburgers and hotdogs. Fortunately for me, there are enough leftovers at the office from everyone else's picnics that I shouldn't be complaining! Most holidays center around food of some sort, but July fourth is all about watching explosions in the sky while stuffing your face with freshly grilled meat products. I think we would all like every weekend to have a picnic involved, so we make this one count by loading down our coolers and grills with as much festivity as possible. Laying by the pool, sipping something cold, and smelling the hamburgers cooking is definately an ideal way to spend any time off of work. I guess since I wasn't able to do it when everyone else did, I'll just make my own holiday and invite people over this coming weekend!
Sushi Anyone?

I don't know if it's the hot weather, or if I've just become more picky, but lately I've been eating Sushi at least three times a week. I mention the hot weather only because usually heavy foods aren't so great when the temperatures rise. Take the beach for example. Coconut shrimp and fried crab claws are great for dinner, but in the middle of the day when you're laying out, do you really want those nachos? Not me, anyway. Since I've been in such a raw fish kind of mood recently, I've been trying to mix it up and try new places and different types of items. Whole Foods has great brown rice sushi, and the eel is my personal favorite there. Of course Virago is great, but with the price they charge for their rice I definately can't eat there for a girls' night out, at least not on a regular basis!
