As you are preparing to celebrate the red, white, and blue this weekend, don't forget to go GREEN by shopping at the Green Hills Whole Foods Market this Wednesday, July 2nd. Five percent of the Green Hills store's net proceeds on the 2nd will be donated to The Land Trust for Tennessee helping them serve more landowners across our state and protect more of the countryside we'll all be celebrating on July 4th.

Make a Statement

Posted by Mandi Coleman (06.27.08, 12:54 PM)

For the past two weeks, I've been obsessed with jewelry. Not to the point of it interfering with everyday life, even though I probably do spend too much time shopping online at work, but it's just enough of an obsession for it to occupy a good portion of my brain. While I understand that there are much better things that I could allow my brain to focus on...it is what it is.

I haven't wanted dainty items; thin gold chains with little hearts or stones. No, that's much too girly for me right now. I'm in need of golden birds, huge stones, and large medallions attached to chains. Wearing that would only take simple earrings. While in Fire Finch, I picked up the most amazing pair of earrings though; gold, coral, and anything but small. You can see them from a block away. With those I paired a chunky bracelet that seemed to be made sometime in the BC era. Isn't it amazing what they can replicate now? I'm looking forward to wearing all my new finds with a simple, solid dress this weekend.

Breakfast on the Weekends

Posted by Mandi Coleman (06.25.08, 1:25 PM)

This Saturday, from 8am - 9:30am, Whole Foods Market is joining with the Green Hills Action Partnership to encourage community awareness and involvement. They are hosting a free breakfast for anyone who signs up in order to do just that...get everyone involved!

I don't know about you but I will be showing up to participate. If it's anything like the spread that Whole Foods usually puts out, it's not going to disappoint! Not only that, but I have been trying to find ways to get involved with the local community and give back. This is a good way to meet others who want to do just that.

Best Happy Hour in Nashville?

Posted by Mandi Coleman (06.20.08, 05:07 PM)

I know that like me, you are wondering where to go after a hard week's work to meet up with friends...and not spend $12 on a Martini. Save that for date night, or even later that same night for that matter! But right after I leave the office the last thing I want to do is go to the new posh place and spend that day's salary just to get going.

I realized this earlier today when speaking with the group I'll be meeting up with this evening. Where's a girl to go on her first stop that isn't an actual bar. After all, bars are fun only when crowded with other like-minded people. No one wants to walk into a sparse bar that smells like last night's smoke.

Needless to say, I did some research and discovered that while Nashville has many great happy hour specials during the weekdays, only a few contenders are brave enough to offer something up on a Friday night. And there isn't a local list anywhere to be found online letting the masses know about it.

The Weight Debate

Posted by Mandi Coleman (06.19.08, 12:57 PM)

I know that recently there has been a surge on the health food market, especially considering that seventh grade girls now have the body of a senior due to the hormones in everything from milk to chicken now. But more so than the food, what I've noticed when out and about on a weekend afternoon is the amount of women walking around in workout attire. Perhaps they just left the gym and needed to run in and buy the latest shoes at Posh; maybe they just want everyone to know they are members of a gym. Either way, the health-craze is starting to hit Nashville the way it hit California so many years before. Is that a "Finally" statement, or something we should be concerned about?

After all, I am a HUGE supporter of healthy foods and a good workout regime. What I'm not a fan of is women that become obsessed with it to the point of it being a status symbol. Because at that point it really isn't healthy in the least. So let's wear our gym clothes if we're in them because we're using them, not because they looked cute at the store and we want to make other's think we're in the "cool crowd."

Over Exposure

Posted by Mandi Coleman (06.12.08, 3:48 PM)

There's nothing like summer when it comes to soaking up the sun, getting a tan, and having a frosty concoction by the pool. But when you are on a trip with co-workers, that experience takes on a whole new meaning. There I was in Las Vegas this week, laying in the "Garden of the Gods" at Caesar's Palace, smack in between two VPs in my company. Awkward? Just slightly.

I can honestly say that I'm glad I didn't purchase the adorable Juicy Couture bikini I had spotted in Nashville the week before. That one in particular would have been too much to BARE.

I'm not sure what the proper way to handle that situation could have been. I chose not to have any alcohol in my beverage, and risked the tan lines by not moving my top's straps from their intended place. All in all, I got some semblance of a tan but kept all of my dignity.

Twin Cities aren't Twice the Fun

Posted by Mandi Coleman (06.06.08, 01:15 PM)

I returned from a four day trip to Minneapolis yesterday. The city was gorgeous; classic architecture mixed with modern colors and shapes. Flowers were in bloom and everyone walked, biked, or took one of the many eco-friendly hybrid buses instead of gas-guzzling SUVs. We shopped, we ate, and we saw the Twins overcome the Yankees from a fully stocked mid-field suite.

To make my journey complete, I had to make one final stop. This was my first trip to the city, so of course I had to visit the Mall of America. Of all the stories I've heard, and all the hype that surrounds the massive cluster of retail shops, I have to admit I was really let down! Instead of having new and unusual stores in which to swipe my credit card, they had 3 Victoria's Secrets, two Abercrombies, and also more than one of every other store in our local malls, as well. Living in this area and being able to travel to other cities really makes you realize that we don't have it so bad. After all, I stayed in downtown Minneapolis while I was there and didn't notice any shop that we didn't have!
