Everyone's Running to "The Shack"

Posted by Mandi Coleman (04.03.08, 9:10 AM)

Call me crazy, but after moving to Nashville and seeing the size of some homes (most having four or fewer residents within its 10,000 sq. feet), I can't help but find it ironic that a novel entitled "The Shack" is being whisked from bookstore shelves with abandon. It is also a self-published book; something that typically doesn't even make a glitch on the best-seller list. William Young's has though, after each and every publishing house he tried slammeded the door in his face.

Talk about perseverance - I want to believe in my work the way he did his! The book, about a man's encounter with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirt, has caused an uproar not only in the local area, but around the world. Young is scheduled to speak in numerous countries this year, having completed many already.

I purchased the novel last week at Borders. It was at the register, near the door, and lined on shelves everywhere. After reaching the checkout counter, the young man scanning the book mentioned that he bought it as well and couldn't wait to read it.

"It's the most amazing book I've ever read!" The woman behind me said immediately. She almost couldn't contain herself. After this the cashier vowed he would read it tonight and probably finish by morning.

I have also read this book and I can tell you it has impacted my life in a profound way. It makes you really take a long hard look at your life and where your priorities are. It paints a picture of God as the Father that few of us have probably ever heard before. I have several friends who have also read the book and feel the same way I do. I have no doubt that this book can change lives. It has mine!

I read this - I couldn't put it down. Honestly wonderful. Some have criticized the fact that God is a woman in the book. But no, God portrayed himself that way, and changed towards the end. People need to not be so closed-minded
