Eavesdropping at the Preds Game

Posted by Mandi Coleman (02.18.08, 3:35 PM)

The game should have been too exciting for me to pay attention to the attendees around me. We had gotten tickets on the ice, literally right behind that clear plastic partition. But the game seemed to drag on forever, with no one scoring or getting into a tussle of any kind. After my second drink I started to occupy my time by listening to the intensely colorful woman behind me scream, "Git 'er Done!" every couple minutes. In between that overused phrase, she herself was commenting about the people around her to anyone who would listen.

There was one particular comment she made that really stood out to me. After seeing a girl pass by with a Coach bag on her shoulder, she leaned over to her husband and let him know how much she admired the bag. She then informed him that you could only purchase those purses in New York for $1,000. While most of you know that isn't the case, what struck me as horrifying was the realization of how truly horrible the Nashville market is in relation to designer accessories.

I've heard rumors that the old Wild Oats in Green Hills is about to be converted into a Nordstrom, but I can't even fathom that happening. The closest Chanel dealer to us is in Atlanta, but even the retailers in this area that carry designer bags don't have the most current lines, with the exception of Louis Vuitton. I seriously hope that more options come to Nashville soon. We have the money, the desire, and the need for it!

I agree! I think shopping in Nashville is horrifying!!

I think shopping in Nashville is fun, you just have to know where to go to get what you want. Stay away from the chain stores and shop all the wonderful little boutiques, that is where you can find all the lovely items that you can't get everywhere else. As for coach purses I'm just not that much of a fan but I will say that I find it comical that a chick who screams "Get er done" can actually identify one on the arm of someone else...Who would have thought!

Nashville is trying hard to be a real city but it's a small town at heart (not necessarily a bad thing).

But I can't understand how a place where so many stars live doesn't have a Nordstrom, Neiman's, or Sax.

Nashville is not the new LA - no matter what the shirt says.

It's not a horrible place but there's room for improvement.

p.s. there are some cute boutiques...thankfully.

What is Sax?

I agree with Jackie. Nashville does have some great places, but you have to know where to go. We don't have a Neiman's or Nordstrom's, but we have great boutiques— Jamie, Gus Mayer, Via Runway and The Cotton Mill are just a few. Check out the neighborhood boutiques like those on 12th Ave. S. They've got awesome contemporary clothing and handmade accessories. Atelier has great handcrafted jewelry for those artisan connoisseurs as well. Don't bash Nashville's shopping. It's here, you might just have to look for it a little harder.

Give me a break, you may can go to a little boutique for a few cute items. But Mandi is talking designer bags here! There's only one place worth getting that from; Neimans!

Could "The Pretender" have meant Saks as in Saks Fifth Avenue? Maybe Nashville isn't ready.

Where did you acquire all the designer accessories that appear now so essential to you when you were younger?

Who wears designer when they're younger? What private school did you go to
