Standing proudAll-Academy and ROTC Ball celebrates America's new leadersPublished on February 02, 2010 at 10:16amIf you want to feel old, just go to the All-Academy and ROTC Ball. It's not so much that all the honorees are fit, young and attractive—which they all are. It's that they are too respectful of their elders. "Yes, ma'am, thank you ma'am, how can I help you ma'am?" It's enough to make a 41-year-old sign up for a Senior Citizen's discount. <

Actually, it's not so bad, these handsome young men and women do our country proud, as well as their parents. Mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers crowded Loews Vanderbilt Hotel to catch a glimpse of the cadets and midshipmen, along with a moving Color Guard Procession. When the crowd settled in for dinner, they were treated to a talk from Professor Michael Newton, a graduate of West Point and co-author of Enemy of the State: The Trial and Execution of Saddam Hussein. Most importantly, Becky Ross made a presentation on the Wounded Warrior Project, the beneficiary of the Ball. One of the most memorable parts of the evening, as always, was the spirited toasts—to the United States, the President, the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Merchant Marines, Coast Guard and Citadel. And of course, the final toast to "the lovely ladies." Officers, ladies and gentlemen, thanks for all you do. EN —photographs by sinclair kelly N this IssueThis Month's Cover
