Men in tiesFrivoliTIES: One of the few parties where men don't mind sporting tiesPublished on February 02, 2010 at 9:07am"Am I the only one here wearing a goofy tie?" Marsh Ragland asked, looking down at his charming Three Stooges tie. No worries Marsh, the others were just late. Plenty of folks looked appropriately odd this evening at FrivoliTIES at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel. That's how it's supposed to be at Family & Children's Service's fundraiser. Strange ties. It's dress code. <

Now in its 16th year, FrivoliTIES has been dubbed "The Party with a Purpose," and honored the Kappa Alpha Theta Nashville Chapter. That's a mighty fine sorority and more than 20 Theta alums, including F&CS Board president Sarah Ann Ezzell, showed up to support the organization and their sisterhood. Looking like they could still be coeds, the ladies (most of whom were blonde) posed on the steps of the hotel for a photo for their national alum publication. Secret handshake! Event chair Aylin Ozgener Franke made her parents proud this evening. Her father John had some friends who flew in from Turkey for the party. Caring for family and friends—it's a universal language. While guests perused the silent auction, Loews was busy preparing to turn out a whale of a meal. Guests entered the dining room, filled with round tables adorned with the signature gold Theta kite centerpieces. Dinner featured a pesto-roasted tomato salad with mixed greens, manchego cheese and a sundried-tomato vinaigrette; stuffed chicken with polenta and vegetables; and, for dessert, a dried cherry apple cobbler. Sweet! The action continued inside the ballroom during the live auction when Tim Ozgener of CAO stood and offered an impromptu auction item: a party for 20 at the CAO headquarters. If you haven't seen their offices, you are missing out. Totally Feng Shui. Also, during the program, F&CS awarded a scholarship to Addison DeMoss who is now in school at Morehouse. We love it when these partygoers get to see what their philanthropic dollars do—good to remind folks of the mission. EN —photographs by eric england N this IssueThis Month's Cover
